Max wakes up hungover to find his pregnant best friend Maggie from high school knocking at his door, desperately seeking his help. When Maggie's religious mother arrives they must hide all evidence of his gay life and pretend to be the perfect couple.

Max and Maggie come up with some ground rules for their new charade, even with The Divine's constant buzzing. A flashback reveals a young Max and Maggie's high school years, their fierce commitment to each other and Dorothy's former bad mommy ways.

A flashback shows the lengths a high school Maggie has gone to protect budding gay, Max. Presently, the new family take a suggested Lamaze class with hunky instructor/nurse in training Patrick, which results in an exciting time for single Max.

Patrick takes Max out for coffee unbeknownst to Maggie. A run-in with his best friend, Kyle, leaves Max flustered and a miscommunication with Patrick starts a big development in their relationship. Max starts to notice something strange happening with his body.

A month has passed in Max and Maggie's charade. Max's pregnant belly is growing and growing, while he lies to Maggie so he can hang out with Patrick. Dorothy reveals her plans for her daughter. Max has a breakthrough in Alcoholics Anonymous.

Blurring the lines of past and present - Maggie confronts Max about his new crush, which leads to the biggest fight of their entire friendship. This makes them question their future, while confronting their past choices and decisions about why they chose to go their separate ways in the first place.

One month after the fight that made Maggie and Dorothy move out, Max's life has become a complete and utter mess. It's up to The Divine to fix their relationship before it's too late. She decides what he needs is a little tough love and Scrooging.

Max rents a car and makes the long trek to Elliot Lake to patch things up with Maggie. He reveals his baby bump to her and after the initial shock, she encourages him to live his authentic life. Max comes clean to Patrick, but things don't go as planned.

Patrick explains to Max what his disability means to him. Maggie prepares to tell Dorothy the truth. Max says goodbye to The Divine. A furious force charges towards them

The charade is over. An explosive fight erupts after Dorothy bursts into the apartment, confronting Max and Maggie with the the truth she's just heard at the A.A. meeting. She pressures Maggie to come clean and reveal the identity of the mysterious father.

Dorothy takes advantage of Maggie's delicate state and meddles to push Max out of Maggie's life for good. Max attempts to find Maggie in the Hospital with Patrick's help, but the appearance of Maggie's baby daddy throws him off and threatens everything.
